Janes Accepts Point Under Circumstances

Danny Janes was left frustrated by his team's draw away at Thornbury Town but admits he accepts the point under the circumstances.

The Plums travelled to Thornbury on the back of two Hellenic League wins in a week and were looking to add a third in an attempt to climb the table following a poor start.

James Baldwin had given Danny Janes' side the lead on Saturday after good work from Nathan Benson and Aidan Clark to set Baldwin in on goal to cooly slot beyond the keeper.

Thornbury Town found their way back into the game before the half time whistle however with an unbelievable ball through the Pershore defenders for the winger to run onto and finish well.

The task ahead for Pershore became much tougher with Jake Donnelly put into the sin bin in the opening moments of the second half before being shown a second yellow instantly and sent off.

With Janes' side down to ten men they weathered a number of storms and prevented Thornbury from breaking into the penalty box whilst Jude Franks remained comfortable with shots from distance.

The Plums did nearly win the game however in the dying moments, Harlie Price ran through on goal and with the ball bouncing his attempted lob of the keeper dropped just wide of the post.

"A frustrating result as I felt with the quality we had on the pitch, we should be winning those games." said Janes.

"The pitch was difficult, it slowed the game down and it suited Thornbury, full credit to them. It was nothing we wasn't aware of, we spoke about individual performance potentially being impacted but having enough moments of quality to win the game, and we just didn't have that.

"First half we looked okay I felt, we scored a good goal and should have scored a couple more. We concede a disappointing goal where we allow their winger to run across the line and finish off a good through ball.

"Second half the early red card kills us and limits any tactical approaches we had as we had to soak up a lot of pressure and try and create a moment of quality.

"We still set up to win the game, I am happy with the defensive performance as a team as despite the pressure, I can't remember one good chance for Thornbury so that's a credit to the lads.

"We had some good chances ourselves and with composure in a couple of key moments, we could have won the game.

"Not the result we wanted but we will accept the point under the circumstances."
