Match Preview; Bewdley Town

Match Preview; Bewdley Town

Club Admin8 Oct - 11:47

It's a break from league action this evening for Danny Janes' side and the first of five successive away games leading into November.

The Plums travel to Ribbesford Meadows tonight for a Worcestershire Senior Cup fixture, a trophy that was won during the 2021/22 Season in beating Worcester City on penalties in the final at Bromsgrove Sporting.

Not for the first time this season, Janes' side enter into a cup competition against a team from Step 6, however the Pershore Town supporters will be hoping for a different result to the one suffered back in August.

Bewdley Town are the opponents this evening and they currently play in Hellenic League Division One having suffered relegation last season from Midland Football League Premier.

A positive start to the current campaign, the Riversiders sit just outside the play-off places in the league having won five of their ten games to date.

They'll be a familiar face in the Bewdley ranks this evening, former Pershore Town striker Elliott Lees is regularly finding the back of the net for our hosts, he has sixteen goals in thirteen games this season.

Whilst Lees sits joint top in the scoring charts for Hellenic League Division One, Michael Bridges is backing him up at the Riversides with five from his twelve appearances.

Kai Del Kiffin will also be ones to keep an eye on, should he play. He's scored on four occasions this season for Bewdley Town but haven't featured in the last four games for our hosts.

One player that won't feature tonight is Elliott Sumnall, he was sent off recently against Droitwich and will still have one game remaining on his suspension.

For The Plums, it's a competition that'll bring back some fond memories having beaten some big teams during the 2021/22 Season to lift the trophy for the first time in the club's history.

Bromsgrove Sporting at home will live long in the memories of most, one of Danny Janes' first games in charge and a James Baldwin masterclass saw The Plums pull back a three goal deficit in the dying moments to win on penalties.

That said, the following season had the opposite effect as The Plums lost on penalties to Step 6 opposition, Droitwich.

Kirk Layton could be in line for a return to action tonight, he missed out Saturday through an injury picked up against Westfields.

Zaq Hussain remains unavailable whilst Jack Cresswell will serve the last of his two match ban following an unsuccessful appeal against his red card at home to Mangotsfield United.

Nathan Benson made a welcome return on Saturday against Roman Glass following an injury that had kept him out for a whole, he'll be expecting further minutes this evening whilst Ben Tilbury, Petar Tonchev and Harlie Price could also feature heavily after impressing coming on at 2 - 0 down on Saturday.

Youngster Devonn O'Sullivan could also be in line for a return, he's missed the last couple through injury.

The Plums certainly can't afford to take the Riversides lightly this evening at Ribbesford Meadows, they're unbeaten in six of their eight games at home this season.

"Those who were involved with us during our first tenure know how special this Cup competition is to us." said Janes

"I have been disappointed with our Cup performances this season so I would like to see a big improvement immediately.

"We have picked up two good back to back results and it is important we take that confidence into the game tonight, however, Bewdley will be coming for us so we need to be ready.

"They are having a good season so far and are in a solid position in the league.

"Of course we are the favourites as we are the league above but, rightly so, Bewdley have nothing to lose and that makes them dangerous."
