The Plums will welcome Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup Winners, Cirencester Town, to the Recruit 12 Community Stadium this afternoon as they complete their Hellenic League schedule for the 2024/25 campaign.
For Danny Janes' side, they'll come into today's game in good spirits having won four games on the spin in all competitions. The Plums could wrap up finishing sixth this afternoon with a win, but defeat could easily see a eighth placed finish.
James Mortimer-Jones' side won the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday evening with a convincing win over Westfields in the second leg of the final at Allpay Park. This following allowing a 2 - 0 lead to slip at the Corinium Stadium the week before.
Cirencester have had an indifferent season following their voluntary relegation from Step 4 at the end of last season. Whilst relegation has never been a fear, despite losing their opening seven league games this campaign, they'll undoubtedly feel they could be slightly higher in the league table.
The Centurions are still to travel to Malmesbury Victoria in midweek to wrap up their 2024/25 Season, they'll undoubtedly be a feeling of wanting to finish strong now and they'll certainly fancy picking up six points from the two games.
There's no doubt given recent form that Ross Gabriel will be key to that scenario. The former Lydney Town and Brimscombe & Thrupp front man has been unplayable over the last few weeks with seven goals scored in his last three games.
Jack Horrell will be another one worth keeping an eye on this afternoon. Jack will likely feature in Cirencester's midfield and the former Evesham United, Malvern Town and Worcester Raiders man is a joy to watch with how he can manipulate the ball. Horrell has the ability to really unlock any side in the Hellenic League, they'll be no doubt Danny Janes will look for his side to do a job on Jack.
Elsewhere, Ed Scott is well worth watching, the youngster is on loan from Bishop's Cleeve to Cirencester. Ed made his debut as a 16-year-old for Cleeve last season and has been obtaining valuable minutes with Cirencester. Used mainly as a defender, Ed also has the ability to mix it in the forward areas. Showing maturity well beyond his years, Cirencester have a really good player on their hands in Ed.
Finn Bell will be another to keep an eye on this afternoon, with bags of energy in midfield Finn has been hugely important for Cirencester Town this campaign. The former Forest Green Rovers and Yate Town man has chipped in with six goals this season.
For Danny Janes' side, they'll be a real determination to ensure they wrap up the league campaign with a win this afternoon at the Recruit 12 Community Stadium. Consistency has certainly been Pershore's achilles heel this season but The Plums have won their last four games and will want to make that five.
Recent wins over Mangotsfield United and Highworth Town have proved that Pershore belong at the top end of the Hellenic League table but Janes will urge once again for his players to show the levels they can reach.
Pershore's season is far from over at the conclusion of today's final league game, having now learnt they'll travel to Hartpury University in the Semi Final of the Challenge Cup. Another huge task but another big opportunity for The Plums to prove themselves against the soon-to-be league champions.
Harlie Price scored the equaliser in last weekends win over Highworth Town, brilliantly heading home a Bailey Fuller corner to take his tally for the season up to nineteen. Harlie is only beaten in the scoring charts by Bailey Fuller himself, 'Bails' is up to twenty but will be slightly disappointed he didn't add to that last weekend.
Aidan Clark sits behind those two with seventeen goals for the campaign whilst James Baldwin wraps up the top four, has had fourteen goals. The Plums are the joint-second top goalscorers in the league as it stands and they'll be hopeful of adding to that tally this afternoon!
Danny Janes will have the luxury of a near-on fully fit squad ahead of today's encounter with Luke Carsley, Jake Donnelly and Sacha Everard all returning from injury in recent weeks.
It'll be an emotional game for one man this afternoon, Steve Webb brings the curtain down on his playing days. 'Webby' has featured over 550 for Pershore Town, representing the club across sixteen seasons and playing for thirteen managers. A Pershore Town side without Steve Webb in will be tough to see, but Mr Pershore Town himself will be desperate to bow out with three more points.
The reverse of this fixture back in November saw The Plums run out 2 - 0 winners with two great strikes from Steve Webb and Aidan Clark. Three points, two goals and a clean sheet - you'd bet DJ would take that again for his side but we all know football isn't as simple as that.
"We conclude our season with the game today and we want to finish with a positive result." said Janes.
"Cirencester are on a high from their recent cup success, and so they should be. They have beat some very good sides of late, they will want to continue that form I am sure.
"We are playing well ourselves so it has the potential for a really good game. We are hoping to put on a show for our loyal fans and finish off the season with three points.
"We'll also say farewell to Steve Webb as he has announced his retirement, hopefully Mr Pershore can sign off with a win, I know he will be desperate for that."
