Match Preview; Corsham Town

Match Preview; Corsham Town

Club Admin22 Nov - 17:23

The Plums are in Hellenic League action tomorrow afternoon at the Recruit 12 Community Stadium, Corsham Town are the visitors.

The two sides met in the reversal back in September, the hosts Corsham running out 1 - 0 winners after scoring from the penalty spot. Despite defeat, there was a good feeling around the Pershore camp that day, an impressive performance against the, then, league leaders.

For our visitors tomorrow, The Quarrymen, it's been a tough period of the season. Just one win in their last eleven league games has seen them slip down to ninth in the league after an impressive start to the season.

It was a 1 - 1 draw at home to Longlevens last time around for Corsham, Levens scoring late in the game to rescue a point after Corsham took the lead in the first half.

The Quarrymen will be without Jake Wilson for tomorrow's Hellenic League fixture, he's featured nineteen times this season but was sent off against Longlevens last weekend after also seeing red against Tuffley Rovers at the end of October.

Top goalscorer Dylan Lewis hasn't featured for the club since a 2 - 1 defeat at home to Fairford Town on the 1st October. The former Slimbridge AFC and Yate Town forward has scored ten times for Corsham this season and was a key figure in their early season form.

Brad Sellwood and Kent Kauppinen are two that have moved on since The Plums visited Corsham back in September, both have moved up to Step 4 and have proved undoubtedly to be big losses to the Club.

Jemar South-Thomas has six in fifteen games for The Quarrymen, he scored the only goal for Corsham in their draw against Longlevens last time around.

Isaiah Crawford proved a handful for Pershore Town back in September, he led the line superbly well with his physicality and Danny Janes' side will certainly be expecting another tough battle with the former Bristol Rovers graduate.

It's also expected that captain, Ethan Hill, will return to the starting line-up for Corsham tomorrow afternoon. An accumulation of yellow cards saw him miss out on a recent trip to Slimbridge, but he came on early in the second half last weekend in the 1 - 1 draw against Longlevens.

After an awful start to the campaign, Danny Janes' side are beginning to find their feet in the Hellenic League, a 2 - 0 win over Cirencester Town on Saturday made it three league wins in a row for The Plums.

Whilst recent disappointments against Sporting Club Inkberrow and Bromsgrove Sporting will always be hard to forget, Janes' side will be hopeful of beginning to climb the league table should their form continue.

The Plums sit thirteenth in the league table, whilst a win Saturday would see them just two points behind Corsham Town with two games in hand. That's a Corsham side that won nine of their opening ten league games.

James Baldwin continue to lead the way for Pershore in the scoring charts, the wide man has nine for the season to date whilst an impressive goal against Cirencester Town took Aidan Clark up to eight for the season.

Steve Webb was the unlikely source of the opening goal against Cirencester last weekend, that's his first for the season, matching his tally for last season and beating his tally of the precious two seasons to that.

One player that won't feature is Jake Donnelly, despite serving a ban from being sent off against Thornbury Town, he's been handed a further two game ban.

Sean Cooke remains a doubt, a late decision on his inclusion could come on Saturday morning whilst Petar Tonchev could also be missing for The Plums.

Ultimately, there's three points at stake and both sides will be desperate to secure them. Corsham will want to turn the tide again on their season whilst Pershore will look to continue with their momentum.

"We are looking forward to the game as it’s another opportunity for us to continue our positive league form." said Janes.

"We were unlucky not to come away with anything when we faced Corsham earlier in the season, the dynamics of nothing teams have changed since that result.

"The players trained well in the week and are ready to go. I look forward to seeing which players can continue their high standards and who can put in another good performance."
