Match Preview; Highworth Town

Match Preview; Highworth Town

Club Admin28 Mar - 21:00

Danny Janes' side are back in Hellenic League action tomorrow afternoon, a trip down to Wiltshire awaits The Plums.

Pershore travel towards Swindon tomorrow to take on a Highworth Town side that have already confirmed their Hellenic League Premier Division Play-Off place, making it the second season since losing their Step 4 status they've done so.

Paul Braithwaite's side are one of the most in-form teams in the Hellenic League at present, winning their last four games including a 3 - 2 win over soon-to-be league champions Hartpury University.

The Worthians have suffered just six defeats at home during the 2024/25 Season in all competitions, remaining unbeaten at their Save On Tyres Stadium so far in 2025.

Whilst a Play-Off place is already confirmed, Highworth will need to win both of their last two games and rely on a Mangotsfield United and Sporting Club Inkberrow slip up to secure home advantage.

A home tie certainly looks unlikely, you'd imagine, but winning games of football is a habit and The Worthians will certainly want to take a winning run into the Play-Offs.

It's the penultimate game for both sides tomorrow afternoon with Highworth set to travel to Malmesbury on Thursday whilst Danny Janes' Pershore Town side will welcome Cirencester Town to the Recruit 12 Community Stadium next Saturday.

For Paul Braithwaite's side, they'll be some reliance on Josh Davis to continue in his scoring form. Josh rejoined Highworth from Didcot Town in January and the former Wantage Town striker has scored ten goals in eleven games since his arrival.

With Josh is Luke Whelan, on ten goals. Luke is into his second season with Highworth Town and also lists Wantage Town within his former clubs. Leon Morrison backs up Josh and Luke with eight goals, and mainly from midfield. When the ball is in wide areas tomorrow afternoon, you can expect to find Leon breaking into the box.

Finally, Piers Walton will be another one that's worthy of watching. Piers has pace in abundance and will look to get at Pershore from in the wide areas. He's also chipped in with seven goals himself this campaign with the former Easington Sports man signing from Kidlington.

For Danny Janes' side tomorrow, it'll be much like before in that The Plums cannot make the Play-Offs now but there's an urgency to finish the season strongly to gain momentum for the 2025/25 campaign.

Pershore have won their last three games in all competitions, including an impressive win away at Mangotsfield United. Whilst a defeat at home to Royal Wootton Bassett was the final nail in the coffin for the Play-Offs this season, Janes has still been urging his side to show the levels they can reach.

The Plums have lost just the once in their last nine away games in all competitions, albeit a 5 - 1 defeat to Hartpury. They'll be under no illusions how tough tomorrow's encounter will prove to be however.

In the week, Janes' side booked their place in the Challenge Cup Semi Final with a 3 - 0 away win over Ludlow Town. Bailey Fuller and Harlie Price on the scoresheet for The Plums who registered just their eleventh clean sheet of the season.

Bailey Fuller's brace took him to twenty goals for the season, averaging exactly one goal every two games. His first came from the spot after James Baldwin was brought down whilst his second was a brilliant solo effort when being marked by two Ludlow Town defenders.

Price's strike, perhaps a little fortune - but they all count, came late on in the second half following an effort from Reiss Taylor-Randle whilst deflected off of Harlie Price to wrong-foot the goalkeeper.

Behind those two in the scoring charts remains Aidan Clark and James Baldwin, with Clark having struck seventeen and Baldwin having notched up fourteen for the 2024/25 Season.

Tuesday evening saw the return of Luke Carsley and Jake Donnelly, who have both been out injured whilst it's hoped Sacha Everard could return for tomorrow's game. Petar Tonchev could also be inline to return to Janes' squad having been unavailable in recent weeks.

The reverse of this fixture, back at the start of December, saw Pershore get off to a flying start, taking a 2 - 0 lead after ten minutes. The Worthians did salvage a draw however with an 87th minute strike to level matters.

"One of the toughest away trip of the season as we compete in our penultimate league game of the campaign." said Janes.

"Highworth deserve to be in the Play-Off places because of their consistency.

"We have picked up some really good results as of late and we want to pick up another in this one. I have no doubt Highworth will be looking to take momentum into the Play-Offs, the only way to do that is to keep winning games of football.

"We are going to need some big performances if we are to come away with the result we want. I know the players will be desperate to show the levels they can hit against a side of Highworth's quality.

"We also owe it to the loyal fans that follow us where ever we play, we want to deliver for them."
