Match Preview; Ludlow Town

Club Admin25 Mar - 14:39

There's a break in Hellenic League action this evening for Danny Janes' side as they have a Challenge Cup Quarter Final to contest.

The Plums will travel to Shropshire this evening to take on Hellenic League Division One side Ludlow Town at their Flowfit Stadium.

This evening's hosts, Ludlow Town, have lost just once in their last six games and were victorious over Hellenic Premier Division side, Slimbridge AFC, within their route to the Quarter Final.

The Knights were handed a walkover win against Evesham United Development Team for their first game in the Challenge Cup before beating Wellington 3 - 1 in the following round.

A penalty shoot-out victory over Slimbridge AFC after drawing the game 2 - 2 set up a tie against Bewdley Town for a place in the Quarter Final. Ludlow again coming through that round on penalties after drawing 2 - 2 at the end of ninety minutes.

Slimbridge AFC are not alone in suffering defeat to Ludlow Town this season from Step 5, Sean Evans' side also dispatching of Sporting Club Inkberrow in the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup with a 3 - 2 win.

Ludlow's form at their Flowfit Stadium this season had been particularly impressive with just four defeats in all competitions from their twenty games.

With a place in the Semi Final up for grabs, Sean Evans will be hopeful his top goalscorer, Ryan Clarke, is on the money this evening. Ryan has twenty-five goals this campaign from just thirty-four games. Operating from the wide areas, Ryan is direct in his play and will look to get in behind Pershore's backline.

Behind Ryan Clarke in the scoring charts is striker, Ryan Lewis. Lewis has sixteen goals to his name this season, averaging just over one goal every other day. It was Ryan's hat-trick that secured Ludlow's win over Sporting Club Inkberrow back in January.

Defensively we'd expect to see former Hereford Pegasus defender, Connor Davies-Austin, in a back four. Connor, now playing for his local team, has featured thirty-three times this season and is a leader at the back for The Knights.

Kieran Dovey will likely be looking to make Ludlow tick on midfield, Dovey has nine goals to his name this season from thirty-two games. Kieran's a real workhorse in midfield, looking to drop on second balls and play forwards with quality when given time to do so.

With just four league games to go for this evening's hosts, much like Danny Janes' Pershore Town, they'll be a reliance on the Challenge Cup to secure some silverware this campaign.

For The Plums, Janes could welcome back Luke Carsley who's close to a return from injury and also Aidan Clark who was unavailable for Saturday's home win over Corsham Town. Jake Donnelly also could be in contention got tonight's squad after getting through the warm up on Saturday.

Raiyan Ahmed will miss out due to being Cup tied whilst they'll also remains a doubt for Sacha Everard despite being in the bench during Saturday's Hellenic League win.

Janes' side have used seventeen different centre half combinations this season and they'll need to change once again tonight with Matt Nutt unable to make the journey over to Ludlow's Flowfit Stadium.

Reiss Taylor-Randle and James Douglas were instrumental in Saturday's win over Corsham Town; matching the visitors workmate. They could again feature tonight or Janes may opt for the experience of Steve Webb who has recently returned himself from injury.

Harlie Price and Bailey Fuller both got on the scoresheet during Saturday's game, that takes them to 17 for the season; matching Aidan Clark's tally. James Baldwin isn't far behind them and those four will likely make up the front three one way or another.

An 8 - 0 win over Brimscombe & Thrupp and a 2 - 0 win away at Shortwood United has set Danny Janes' side up with tonight's Quarter Final tie but it's a game Janes will know all too well how an underdog will be desperate to topple another higher ranked side.

In his previous spell in charge of Pershore Town, Danny Janes' side became very familiar with beating higher ranked side and they'll be hope that The Plums aren't on the receiving end of that this evening.

"We know tactically how we want to approach the game and how we want the game to look." said Assistant Manager, Milward.

"That's not a given though, we know ourselves from our last spell how these games can look.

"We'll need to earn the right first and foremost, there is absolutely no doubt that Ludlow will come for us this evening and we are going to have to match their desire and their efforts to maintain a control in the game.

"We've watched them twice, but I fully expect to see the best version of Ludlow Town this evening. They've beaten two sides from our league already this campaign and they'll see us as a big chance to make that three.

"We've won our last two, we've shown plenty of qualities, plenty of character and plenty of desire. If we can do that again tonight, reach the levels we know we are capable of, then we'll secure a positive result and give ourselves a Semi Final to attack.

"If we are not at it, if we have to many below par performances then we are in huge danger of going out.

"I'm looking forward to seeing who, pulling on a Pershore Town shirt this evening, can meet the challenge of giving us another big performance."
