Plums Beaten On Home Soil

Plums Beaten On Home Soil

Club Admin10 Mar - 15:58

Pershore Town were beaten by Sam Collier's Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday, in a return to Hellenic League action.

Coming off the back of a 2 - 0 win away to Shortwood United the week previous in the Marsh Challenge Cup, The Plums were hopeful of returning to winning ways in their league campaign as Sam Collier's Royal Wootton Bassett visited the Recruit 12 Community Stadium.

With both sides in desperate need for a win to maintain the play-off chase, it was the visitors that secured all three points in a game where all the goals were scored in the opening half.

Danny Janes' side found themselves 2 - 0 down heading towards half time before Harlie Price gave Pershore hope with a headed goal from close range.

Despite having plenty of possession, The Plums were unable to hurt Royal Wootton Bassett leaving Janes' side needing somewhat of a miracle to get within touching distance now of the Hellenic League Premier Division Play-Offs.

"A game decided on fine margins. I felt we controlled the first half, but we give away a soft goal which makes a game that is already difficult even harder." said Janes.

"Those are the moments, when the game is in the balance, we are far too naive and have been all season, giving teams an easy goal so we then have to chase the game.

"Bassett looked a threat going forwards, they had some good chances in the second half, Joe Stockton kept us in it.

"We have an unbelievable chance to make it 2-2 with ten minutes to play, score that and then both teams go for the win. Key moments, we aren't good enough in those moments and that's been the story of our season.

"We have plenty of the ball in games but that does not correlate with the number of chances we create. We have to do more with the ball and take more risks, show more quality and aggression.

"We have a lot of work to do for next season and some big decisions to make."
