Plums Fall To Narrow Defeat

Plums Fall To Narrow Defeat

Club Admin16 Dec - 15:05

Danny Janes' side left themselves too much to do on Saturday after falling 2 - 0 behind to high-flying Roman Glass.

The Plums travelled down the M5 to Bristol to take on a Roman Glass side littered with talent and experience, but Janes' side themselves were unbeaten in five league games heading into the game.

Two goals in the first half left Pershore Town with an even tougher task and a strike from Aidan Clark in the second half didn't quite give The Plums enough momentum to swing the game.

A tight affair ended with the hosts securing all three points whilst leaving Danny Janes disappointed with the goals conceded but pleased with his sides overall display.

"Obviously we are dissapointed with the result as we came here to win, like we do in every game." said Janes.

"I thought the performance merited us getting something from the game, but the fine margins were the difference.

"I don't like looking for excuses, but in the build up to their first goal there is a foul. Their second is a very soft penalty, they also should have had a man sent off for kicking our player off the ball, the referee has seen it and given a yellow, so I'm not sure of the thinking there.

"Saying that, we should cope a lot better with both of the goals. We lose our shape in the middle of the pitch for the first which is where the danger was, second goal we make a poor decision on the ball and could defend better 1 v 1.

"I was really pleased with the overall performance. I thought we defended well against some very good forward players, I felt we moved the ball well throughout and caused a lot of problems in the second half.

"The difference today was the experience they had in moments, they had players who really understand the game and can manage situations.

"We are a bit naive at times with our decisions and how we respond to key moments.

"It is clear why Roman Glass are where they are, they are a very good side.

"It's been the story of our season, we did more than match them but we just fell short."
