Plums Progress To Semi Final

Plums Progress To Semi Final

Club Admin26 Mar - 19:43

Danny Janes' side fended off a potential banana skin in beating Ludlow Town last night to progress in the Marsh (Hellenic) Challenge Cup.

The Plums travelled to Shropshire last night to take on Hellenic League's Division One side Ludlow with a place in the Semi Final of this year's Marsh (Hellenic) Challenge Cup up for grabs.

Janes' side certainly couldn't afford to take the hosts lightly last night, The Knights had already beaten Slimbridge AFC and Sporting Club Inkberrow, of the Hellenic League Premier Division, this season.

A dominant first half from The Plums had all but wrapped up the game with Bailey Fuller striking twice to give Pershore the lead. The first from the penalty spot after James Baldwin was brought down and the second a brilliant solo effort attacking down the right side.

The hosts rallied for the second half and Janes' side had to come through some difficult moments but did so and Harlie Price put the game out of sight. Reiss Taylor-Randle picked up the ball in midfield, drove forward before unleashing an effort from distance which struck Price to divert into the back of the net, sending the Ludlow keeper the wrong way.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town joined Pershore Town in the Semi Final following their win over Clanfield 85 last night, the other two Quarter Final fixtures are still to be played.

"A good win on a tricky surface, but one that certainly wasn't a foregone conclusion like many would've thought." said Assistant Manager, Milward.

"Ludlow are good at home, they've claimed two scalps already this season and had only lost four times at home this season in all competitions before last night.

"The players were challenged again last night to meet the levels expected of them following two good performances, I though they did that, certainly in the first half.

"Bailey Fuller was a constant threat down the right, it didn't matter how many players Ludlow tried to get around him, I always thought he looked threatening.

"We've spoken numerous times this season about moments in games, Bailey converts the penalty then doubles the lead with a very good goal. Joe Stockton then makes a huge save down to his right side towards half-time, all three are important moments in the game which gave us the platform for the result.

"Second half Ludlow came for us, they were always going to do that, they had nothing to lose and both sides know had they have got one back, it potentially swings the game. I didn't think we did well enough to get into the game at that point, we rode our luck, we dug in and managed to escape that spell without conceding but against Joe Stockton claws one off the goal line after it hit the inside of the post.

"The third goal kills the tie as a contest and we are delighted to be into the Semi Final, we'll await the draw to see who we play.

"Focus is now on Saturday, we'll travel down to Highworth with every intention of securing a positive result. We want to finish strongly."
